Compress and Resize PDF Online

File size and page size solve different problems. Compress a PDF when the download is too large; resize pages when the physical page dimensions need to change.

File size versus page size

Compression reduces the number of bytes in the file, usually by re-encoding page images. Resizing changes dimensions such as A4 or Letter and does not necessarily make a document smaller. Cropping removes visible margins; it can improve a scan but may have little effect on file size.

Choose quality for the destination

  • Use recommended compression for email and general sharing
  • Use extreme compression or grayscale for strict upload limits
  • Keep a higher-quality original for printing and archiving
