What takes space inside a PDF?

PDFs can contain page images, embedded fonts, vector graphics, attachments, metadata, and repeated resources. Scanned documents are often large because every page is a photograph. Digital documents may already store text and graphics efficiently, leaving less room for dramatic reduction.
